College Football Picks, Week Ending Nov. 3, 2012

November 2, 2012

College Football

November is the month where football gets interesting, especially in the college game. Every week could be a statement win or an upset, and this week is no exception. Without further ado, lets make some picks!

No. 1 Alabama -8.5 @ No. 5 LSU

Last year these two teams played twice. The mainstream media blew the first meeting out of proportion calling it “The Game of the Century”. Instead fans could barely stay awake as they were treated to a 9-6 field goal fest and a LSU victory at Alabama. The Crimson Tide got revenge in the National Championship Game and quarterback AJ McCarron broke out. This year McCarron is leading the Alabama offense with 1,684 passing yards, 18 touchdowns and hasn’t thrown an interception. Both teams boost greats defenses, but McCarron will make one more big play than LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger.

Prediction: Alabama, 17, LSU 10

No. 2 Kansas State -9 vs. No. 24 Oklahoma State

It looks like Kansas State controls their own destiny so their remaining four games are key to completing a dream regular season. Quarterback Collin Klein might have the cheesiest nicknames in sports. Optimus Klein and Klein Apple Express are the two cleverist that I have heard. However, Klein is dangerous with his arms and legs, and will cause problems for a weak Oklahoma State defense.

Prediction: Kansas State 35, Oklahoma State 17

No. 3 Notre Dame -17 vs. Pittsburgh

Notre Dame made a statement with a victory at Oklahoma. The media and their fans are not shy to say how good their defense is playing, and non Notre Dame fans cringe every time. The Irish should have no problem with Pittsburgh at home, but they won’t cover the spread.

Prediction: Notre Dame 20, Pittsburgh 6

No. 4 Oregon -8.5 @ No. 17 USC

It’s shocking that the Ducks are such as high favorite on the road, but they can light up the scoreboard. USC has trouble stopping teams so this could be a shootout in Los Angeles. USC quarterback Matt Barkley is still playing for pride and his draft stock so he will be ready to play in front of a home crowd. In a major upset, expect the Trojans to take the win here. The reason? The “Colorado Curse”, which has caused every FBS team that played Colorado this season to lose their next game.

Prediction: USC 38, Oregon 35

UPSET SPECIAL: Vanderbilt -7 @ Kentucky

The 1-8 Kentucky Wildcats are the laughing the laughing stock of SEC football, but they will record their first conference win this Saturday. Earlier this season at home, the Wildcats had a 17-7 halftime lead against South Carolina and they were beating Georgia in the third quarter. Vanderbilt is not nearly as good as South Carolina and Georgia, and Kentucky will pull off the upset.

Prediction: Kentucky 24, Vanderbilt 20
