Erik Underwood’s Free MLB Picks: 8/7/2012

August 7, 2012

Features

Arizona Diamondbacks @ Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pirates are a ridiculous 34-16 at home this year, and Jeff Karstens has been an under-the-radar stud.  I really like the Pirates at this price.  Pittsburgh is 3-0 in his last 3 starts, and they will face a rookie left-hander today.  The Pirates have been a little more successful against lefties this year, so they should be able to plate a few runs against this kid.  I think their pitching will dominate this game, giving us a result similar to the 4-0 ,final from last night.

Play: Pittsburgh Pirates -118, 1.2 units

It’s hard being an Indians fan right now

Minnesota Twins @ Cleveland Indians

Wow, have the Indians gotten bad or what.  They have lost 10 in a row, and are pretty much mailing it in for the rest of the season.  I can’t imagine it will be easy for them to find motivation to get up for these games, and we might be looking at the Houston Astros of the American League for the next two months.

The Twins have continued to fight, despite being out of the race pretty much all season.  They will throw Samuel Dedundo tonight, who has been surprisingly strong in a starting role.  Over his last 19.1 innings he has given up only 2 earned runs.  One of those outings was a 7 inning, 1 runs performance against these same Cleveland Indians.  I’m on the Cleveland fade train, likely for the rest of the season.

Play: Minnesota Twins +105, 1.2 units
