Erik Underwood’s Free MLB Picks: 7/25/2012

July 25, 2012

Baseball

Normally I have more time to do my write ups, but today I’m a little bit crunched so please excuse me for being brief.  Anyway, here are the plays:

Washington National @ New York Mets

Strasburg is taking the mound and the Nats have dominated the Mets all year.  Strasburg is surprisingly better on the road, and during the day this year.  New York sends Jeremy Hefner to the mound, who has struggled this season.  He is carrying a +5.00 ERA, and we could see the horrific Mets bullpen quite a bit in this matchup.  The Nationals have covered the runline very well on the road this year, so I’ll make a play on that.

Play: Washington Nationals -1.5 (-104), 1.4 units

Atlanta Braves @ Miami Marlins

I can see the morale fading quickly in the Miami locker room with the firesale that they have going on right now.  Before too long, everybody on that roster will stop caring and they will go into a full tailspin.  The Braves are still fighting for a playoff berth, and I’m expecting a bounceback effort from Tommy Hanson.  Atlanta also seems to hit Nolasco pretty well.  Good value on the road team.

Play: Atlanta Braves -112, 1.4 units

Cincinnati Reds @ Houston Astros

Homer Bailey is another pitcher who has actually posted better numbers on the road than at home.  He will face a demoralized Astros team that blew a chance for a win in the 9th inning last night.  The Reds are playing some really great baseball, despite being without slugger Joey Votto.  I think we’ll see another Reds victory tonight against Bud Norris, who despite high strikeout numbers, has really struggled lately.  Take it at -1 to bring the juice down.

Play: Cincinnati Reds -1 (-123), 1.4 units
