Erik Underwood’s MLB Picks: 7/21/2012

Baseball

Miguel Batista is on big time fade alert for me today.

Los Angeles Dodgers @ New York Mets

The pitching matchup in this game stood out to me immediately.  Chris Capuano is having a very strong season for the Dodgers, and will face off today against an aging Miguel Batista.  I caught the line at -119 before it shot up to -132, but I still think you can comfortably play it there.  This is a total Batista fade.  Take the Dodgers and don’t over think things.  They are fighting for first place and will be up to slug out some runs against a spot starter today.

Play: Los Angeles Dodgers -119, 1.2 units

Houston Astros @ Arizona Diamondbacks

Another day, another Houston Astro fade.  Dallas Kuechel is being pushed into a starting spot tonight after the Astros traded J.A. Happ away to the Blue Jays.  Wade Miley will counter for the Snakes.  He has started to regain his form after struggling for a few starts, and should pitch well against a team that can’t hit lefties to save their lives.  I’m fully expecting another lopsided game tonight in the desert.

Play: Arizona Diamondbacks -1.5 +105, 1.3 units

Robinson Cano and the Yankees are hoping to get back on track after losing two straight.

New York Yankees @ Oakland Athletics

I have to give the A’s credit.  Despite their sub-.230 team batting average, they find a way to win games.  They’ve taken two in a row against the best team in the majors, but I think we will see that stop tonight.  Phil Hughes has been very good this season for New York, and should see success against a team that doesn’t hit the ball particularly well.  His biggest weakness has been giving up the longball, and the Oakland Colosseum will help to negate that.  Jarrod Parker has been great this year for Oakland, but I’ll take the number one team in my power rankings at this low price to get the win.

Play: New York Yankees -120, 1.2 units
